Terms of Use
Last updated: March 26, 2026
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using the MeloData API ("Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. MeloData is operated by Voltenworks ("we", "us").
2. API Access & Keys
- You must create an account and generate an API key to use the Service.
- API keys are confidential and non-transferable. You are responsible for all activity under your key.
- Do not share, sell, or expose your API keys publicly (e.g., in client-side code, public repos).
- We may revoke keys that are compromised, shared, or used in violation of these terms.
3. Permitted Use
- Audio features data (BPM, key, energy, danceability, valence, etc.) returned by the API are factual measurements. You may use this data freely in your applications.
- You may display, store, and process the data for your application's functionality.
- You may cache API responses in your own systems.
4. Prohibited Use
- Do not resell or redistribute raw API data as a competing data service.
- Do not circumvent rate limits, quota restrictions, or authentication mechanisms.
- Do not use the Service for any illegal purpose or to infringe on the rights of others.
- Do not use automated scripts to create multiple free accounts to bypass plan limits.
- Do not reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
5. Rate Limits & Quotas
Each plan has rate limits (requests per second/minute) and monthly quotas. Exceeding rate limits returns a 429 status code. Exceeding your monthly quota may result in requests being rejected until the next billing cycle or overage charges if enabled on your account. Rate-limited requests (429) and server errors (5xx) are not counted against your quota.
6. Billing & Payments
- Paid plans are billed monthly via Stripe. Prices are listed on our pricing page.
- You may cancel your subscription at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact support for billing disputes.
- We may change pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing subscriptions are honored through their current billing period.
7. Data & Privacy
- We collect your email address and usage data (API calls, endpoints accessed, response times) to operate the Service.
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- API request logs are retained for 90 days for debugging and analytics purposes.
- You may delete your account and associated data at any time from your dashboard.
8. Service Availability
- The Service is provided "as-is" without warranty of any kind.
- We aim for high availability but do not guarantee specific uptime percentages on Free and Dev plans.
- Scale plan customers receive a dedicated SLA as outlined in their agreement.
- We may perform maintenance with reasonable notice. Emergency maintenance may occur without notice.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, abuse the Service, or fail to pay for your subscription. You may terminate your account at any time. Upon termination, your API keys are immediately revoked.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Voltenworks shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the dashboard. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
